8th October 2022 / Sotillo de la Adrada – Ávila

The IAU (International Association of Ultrarunners) 50km European Championships will be held in Sotillo de la Adrada, Avila, Spain.

The IAU approved the designation of Sotillo de la Adrada as the venue for the 1st European 50km Championships at the meeting of its Executive Committee held last Sunday, 19 September. The event will be held on 8th October 2022, and more than 30 countries are expected to participate in this symbolic distance of ultra-distance running.

In addition, and at the same time as the European Championships, an OPEN competition (with limited places) will be held. A great opportunity, therefore, for the popular runners to rub shoulders with the European elite on the same circuit.

You will soon find more information on this website about this international event, and also about the OPEN competition.

Thanks to the joint work and efforts of Diputación de Ávila, Sotillo de la Adrada Town Council, RFEA and Ecodeporte Sports Club, which presented a magnificent project to the IAU , we can announce this welcome news, which will bring the best European ultra-distance specialists to Sotillo de la Adrada.

European Athletics, RFEA and Castilla y León Athletic Federation  are essential for the organisation of an event of these characteristics, and we thank them for their collaboration.

The competition will be included in the SUL calendar 2022 with the IAU Gold Label, as it corresponds to all official IAU events with the denomination of World or Continental Championship.

Club Ecodeporte will be responsible for the assembly, supervision and technical direction with the invaluable collaboration of Club Ñ Ultrafondo, usual collaborator of Ecodeporte in the events it organises.
